Mortgage Application Management Using Power BI

DATA ANALYTICS

4/2/20242 min read

This data analysis project is part of the Open Classroom Power BI course. The main objective was to lead a comprehensive analysis for Global Bank, specifically focusing on Mortgage Applications Management.

I analyzed data to construct a dynamic dashboard monitoring application statuses and approval trends. This streamlined approach empowered data-driven decision-making, enhancing operational efficiency.

Context

Requirements Analysis

Global Bank has identified inefficiencies in their mortgage application process, characterized by varying file quality and lengthy decision-making timelines. Jane, a key stakeholder, aims to streamline the process by reducing decision time and enhancing file quality. To achieve this, she seeks to empower in-branch advisors with decision-making tools, enable branch managers to confirm or overrule decisions, and alleviate the burden on the central unit responsible for final approvals.

Data preparation

The data source for this project is an Excel file containing five distinct tables:

  • Mortgage applications

  • Branches

  • Professional status

  • Family status

  • Down payment information

Upon extraction into Power BI, the data undergoes a transformation process to ensure suitability for analysis. This involves addressing various data issues such as:

  • Adjusting column types

  • Handling missing values

  • Ensuring data consistency across tables

  • Removing duplicates

  • Standardizing formats

Once these steps are completed, the transformed data is loaded into Power BI, where it is ready for further analysis and visualization.

Data Modelling

During the data modeling step, I structure and organize the data within Power BI to facilitate efficient analysis and visualization. This involves defining relationships between tables, creating calculated columns and measures.

Ultimately, my goal is to ensure that the data is presented in a clear, logical manner, enabling users to derive meaningful insights from the information.
